The article will then go to describe some drug treatments along with the side effects. The use of a diabetes friendly diet and treatment with natural supplementation will be described. At the end of the article the reader, suffering from diabetes types I or II should have enough knowledge to make some objective decisions concerning their own treatment.

Diabetes Type I (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus)

Millions of people suffer from adult-onset diabetes mellitus. The onset is usually from the early teens into the twenties. The main problem to this group of people is sugar. However, it is not sugar as such but how the body reacts to it. The problem arises when the body cannot produce enough insulin (created in the pancreas). The main symptoms include intense thirst, frequent urination, and rapid weight loss. Left untreated diabetes type I (noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus) can lead to damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart, and nerves. Untreated diabetes type I can eventually lead to coma and death. The onset of this disease is so insidious that many people suffering this condition do not realise they have it.

Diabetes Type II (noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus)

Type II diabetes, which is often referred to as insulin resistance, is a little more complex. Usually not starting until the early to mid-forties the causes may have been building up over many years. In diabetes type II the problem is not just a lack of insulin but a defect in the receptors for insulin in the cell walls of fat and muscle tissue, and the liver. This causes an inadequate transfer of of glucose into these organs. The symptoms of an ‘insulin resistance’ are increased urination and thirst, worsening over a few weeks.

Long term complications of Types I and II are generally the same. However, people with diabetes type II can suffer high incidences of stroke, hypertension and heart disease.

Treatment By The Use Of Drugs

Insulin: there are many different trade names. Function: to control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes type I, and sometimes with type II. Side effects: raised cholesterol and blood pressure, obesity.

Oral Hypoglycemic Agents (sulphonylureas): tolbutamide, tolazamide, glipizide, gliquidone, amongst others. to lower blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin. Side effects: increased risk of death from heart disease with long term use.

Biguanides: metformin hydrochloride (glucophage). Function: to increase insulin activity in muscle and fat tissue by preventing the liver releasing extra extra glucose into the bloodstream. Side effects: nausea, loss of appetite, and abdominal cramps.

Glucosidase Inhibitors: acarbose (glucobay). Function: to prevent a rise in blood glucose after eating a diet high in starchy, high-fiber foods. Side effects: wind, bloating, flatulence, malabsorption of nutrients.

Treatment of Diabetes Type I and II by the use of diet

Diet of the person suffering diabetes type I or II is extremely important. However, it needs to be tailored specifically to the individual as no two people benefit the same. The person with type I usually have to be on a very regimented diet. Calories must me managed precisely so that the correct dose of insulin is taken. Blood sugar level needs to be monitored at regular intervals to asses control of the disease. The diet of people suffering type II is somewhat controversial. The advice used to be to eat a low fat, high starch, moderate protein diet, similar to the diet healthy people are supposed to follow. However, recent research as indicated that this type of diet for the person suffering noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus can raise insulin to dangerous levels (caused by high starch consumption). Anthropological studies (studies on our ancestors) have shown that there was very few cases of diabetes in the people of that time. Compared to the average person today these ‘hunter gatherers’ ate much more meat and animal fat, and ate very little in the way of grains and other carbohydrates.

Treatment Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus And Noninsulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus By Natural Supplementation

Bilberry: vaccinium is a fruit is a rich source of anthocyanidins and proanthocyanidins, which are just two types of flavonoids. Diabetes suferers often have damage to their capillaries supplying the eyes, kidneys, extremities. Flavanoids have been shown to protect capillaries.

Bitter Melon: momordica charantia contains phytochemicals that appear to work in the same way as sulphonylurea drugs (see above), without the side effects.

Gymnema: gymnema sylvestre contains gymnemic acid which acts on the tongue to block the ability to taste sweetness. This helps people with a ‘sweet tooth’ stop eating ‘sweet treats’. Gymnema itself appears to stimulate the the production of insulin.

Optimum Diabetics is a proprietary blend of all natural ingredients to help maintain the health of the person suffering diabetes types I and II. Active ingredients are bitter melon, fenugreek, garcinia, gmnema, vanaqdium, chromium, evening primrose oil, alpha lipoic acid.

It can be seen that there is no one clear cut remedy for the person suffering either type I or type II diabetes mellitus. The ‘jury seem to be out’ on the exact sufferers should follow. However, all corners agree that the now standard ‘western’ junk diet of high sugar, low fiber foods is bad for a diabetic. All agree that overweight can exacerbate both types of the condition. Therefore keeping body fat within the recommended range and getting some exercise can only do the diabetic good.

Jeffrey Rossini works in medicine. Unfortunately, many of the diabetes symptoms that present themselves outside of the body are also symptoms of other disorders.

This can cause various misdiagnoses prior to your diabetes being properly discovered and a path of treatment selected. Still, being able to discover the main signs of this illness can save you a bunch of time. When you discover one of the symptoms listed in this article, consult with your physician and ask to be tested.

Has your weight started to fluctuate? Does it feel like you eat all the time but you’re still losing weight? Are the weight changes a recent development? Did these fluctuations start even though your diet hasn’t changed? Weight fluctuations are the easiest to spot of diabetes symptoms. Diabetes causes this by wreaking havoc on your potassium levels which controls the amount of water in your body. The change in water levels causes the changes to your weight. Consult your doctor if your weight starts fluctuating unpredictably.

Usually, a majority of cuts and scrapes, when medicated appropriates, will take hardly any time to recover. Most will close up and begin to heal within a week. Some disappear in that amount of time. Of course, when you have diabetes, even small wounds might not recover appropriately.

This is due to your body’s ability to send in white blood cells that recover and recreate the skin, are affected by the lower levels of sugar and insulin in the blood. If you have seen that you are taking longer to heal than you used to, you should think about calling your physician. This is almost always a sign of a more serious problem.

One of the indicators of diabetes that is more complicated to notice especially in yourself is when you are feeling unlike yourself. We all have days where we have difficulty paying attention. If you are suddenly feeling agitated, confused or even irritated and can’t determine why you feel that way, it could be on the account of you are enduring one of the syndromes of diabetes. It is effortless to recognize this in other people, but hard to see it in yourself.

You might not even be aware that you’re acting different. It’s when someone asks “what’s wrong with you” that you should be alert. Sometimes it is just a bad mood. Sometimes it is an indicator that something is going wrong internally and physically. It is true that symptoms of diabetes can vary from person to person. The type of diabetes you develop will determine the symptoms that you display, if any. In some cases, the only way diabetes is even discovered is the person gets tested for something else. Even when you display all the symptoms, it is still possible to be misdiagnosed before doctors find the real cause. Ask your doctor to screen you for diabetes if you are suffering any of the symptoms mentioned above.

Gestational Diabetes Diet Testing

Gestational Diabetes Diet

There are several different options available for gestational diabetes testing. The most complex of these entails a random blood glucose test. The other two are the screening glucose challenge test and urinary glucose test.

As a general rule, a random blood glucose test will be done by your health care provider during a regular visit – around 24 to 28 weeks. If you test outside normal limits, this test will most likely be followed by what is called an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

The oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is usually done in the morning after you have fasted overnight for between eight and 14 hours. During the three days previous to this test, you must have an unrestricted diet that contains at least 150 grams of carbohydrates per day, along with unlimited physical activity. In this test, you drink a solution that contains a certain amount of glucose. Your health care provider will then draw your blood to measure glucose levels at the start of the test and at time intervals following the initial test.

If your blood sugar is found to be higher then 128 mg/dl after fasting, or higher than 200 mg/dl on any occasion, and if these results are confirmed on a subsequent day, you’ll be diagnosed with gestational diabetes and you will not be tested again.

A second way for gestational diabetes testing is called the screening glucose challenge test. This test is sometimes called the O’Sullivan test. It is usually done when you are between 24 to 28 weeks. It is a kind of simplified version of the oral glucose tolerance test described above. In this test, you will be required to drink a solution containing 50 grams of glucose. Your blood level is then measured one hour later. If the cutoff point is set at 140 mg/dl, this will detect gestational diabetes in about 80% of women.

A third blood sugar testing is urinary glucose testing. Women with gestational diabetes often have high glucose levels in their urine. This is basically dipstick testing in that a special stick is placed in your urine that measures your blood glucose level. While this test has been widely practiced in the past, it tends to perform poorly. For this reason it has fallen out of favor with many health care providers.

The good news of gestational diabetes

If you are told you have gestational diabetes, don’t panic. For one thing, the minute you deliver, the gestational diabetes will go away. That’s just the nature of the disease – it’s present only during your pregnancy and then totally goes away. Second, most women can control the disease simply by making changes in what they eat and when they eat and by exercising regularly. The exercise doesn’t even have to be strenuous. You will probably need to work out only 30 minutes a day, five days a week and the exercise can consist of just taking a nice walk.

Some Typical Causes For Diabetes
More people are being diagnosed with diabetes every day. Look at the people that you socialize with on a regular basis. Odds are at least one of them has diabetes. If not, then there is probably at least one person who knows or is related to someone who has diabetes. Diabetes is really common, especially in the western world. There are two types of diabetes: Type 1 and Type 2. Insulin dependent diabetics are classified as Type 1. It can occur at any time in a person’s life. Because it occurs in adulthood, type 2 is also called adult onset diabetes and those with it are not insulin dependent. Here are some major causes of this disease.

Stop drinking if you drink often! Too much drinking is one of the leading causes of diabetes, especially in older men. Alcohol contains a lot of fats and empty calories that affect all the different parts of your body. More than just your liver is affected. Alcohol can also raise your cholesterol levels. Long term, heavy drinking can also raise blood pressure levels and cause diabetes. A glass of wine a couple times a week won’t hurt you. It can be very harmful to spend a few hours drinking every night.

Treatment should be sought if you have a problem with heavy drinking. Leading an extremely stressful life can also cause you to develop diabetes. It is true! Diabetes is more likely in people who are regularly stressed. What can you do about this? Make it a point to spend time relaxing during the day. Consult your doctor for ways to manage the stress in your day to day life. There are various methods for relieving the different kinds of stressors in life. Lowering your stress level will also lower your risk of type 2 diabetes.

High blood pressure is one of the controllable diabetes causes. People who are struck with high blood pressure are more prone to contracting Type 2 diabetes. Do what you can to manage the levels of your cholesterol and check your blood pressure regularly. This means it is crucial for you to make an effort to minimize your stress and to keep track of your health. High blood pressure comes with it’s own set of problems, but it is even tougher to manage once you have been diagnosed with diabetes. Staying healthy is the best way to keep diabetes from taking hold.

Diabetes is an easy disease to take care of. Some people have an ability to manage it with their diet. We are also now aware that the cause for most diabetes is something we can discipline.

It’s not too far in the past that physicians thought there was little to be done that would block the disease. Many people are aware that trying to follow a healthy lifestyle is usually more than what you need to block the disease from taking over your body. Make an appointment with your doctor if you have some questions about the caused listed in this article.

Gestational Diabetes Diet Can Ensure Safe Pregnancy

Gestational Diabetes Diet

The most memorable incident in the life of a woman is her pregnancy. Unfortunately, many of the diabetes symptoms that present themselves outside of the body are also symptoms of other disorders.

This can lead to many misdiagnoses before your diabetes is properly discovered and a course of treatment is chosen. Still, being able to recognize the primary signs of this sickness can save you a great deal of time. Yes, fatigue is a sign of an array of issues.

At times, it can be an indicator of a major sickness. For other times, it easily means you need to take more time for sleep. Although, when it is being caused by diabetes, the fatigue is enormous. If there is no explainable reason for you to be feeling so drained, contact your medical professional to have them run some tests.

A primary trigger of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes is that the body is unsuccessful in the proper production of potassium. Type 1 diabetes, additionally known as juvenile onset diabetes, is happens on account of genetics and heredity and not generally from factors that can be regulated. If your son or daughter seems to have a stomach bug and is experiencing other odd personality quirks, asking that he or she be tested for diabetes is a good idea. Most likely, a pediatrician will run some precursory tests anyway, just to rule the sickness out.

The symptoms of diabetes can be wildly different from one person to the next. It depends heavily on how far it has progressed in your body and what the severity is. There are those who will never exude a symptom and still have the disease. Others might experience all of the common symptoms of the disease. The first line of defense a person has against this disease is understanding how it manifests itself. If it’s control of the disease you seek you must first recognize the symptoms.

Guidelines For Gestational Diabetes Meal Plan

Gestational Diabetes Diet

You, there. It is a condition wherein a pregnant woman acquires diabetes during her pregnancy. We may not be aware of this but in fact, it is a common condition among pregnant women all over the world. Approximately 5% pregnant women all over the world are experiencing this. If I’m an expecting mother, I’d be scared of it too. Not to worry though. There will be no problem as long as you maintain your blood sugar level. Maintaining your blood glucose level is helpful in preventing any complications during delivery. You don’t want any complications, right? To avoid that entire problem, why don’t you try a gestational diabetes diet plan?

A diabetic’s body does not provide the enough insulin the body requires. In another case, it may be that the cells are not using insulin correctly. Whatever the reason may be, insulin is needed by the body to get glucose from your blood into your cells. This can be controlled provided the right diet is consumed. But if your diabetes is in an advanced stage, insulin should be injected into your system to control your glucose level.

For those with mild gestational diabetes, a balanced diet is very much needed. Don’t worry as you are not alone in this. You can ask your doctor about the right food to eat and the appropriate amount to take in. This diet is called the gestational diabetes diet plan. This diet aims proper intake of the right amount of foods with the needed vitamins and minerals.

The diet plan includes guidelines to be followed. First is to consume foods packed with fiber. You should also make sure that your calories come from good carbohydrates. Second, you should eat three meals a day instead of just two to manage your weight. The meals should be moderate in size. Eat about four snacks everyday too. A bedtime snack wouldn’t hurt either. It is also important be take your meals on time every day. Never ever skip any meal as this will only make your blood glucose level inconsistent. Third, do eat even before hunger strikes. Failing to do so will only increase your blood sugar.

Fourth, watch out what you are eating or drinking. Avoid carbonated drinks, fruit juices or anything that has simple sugar in it. Obviously, these will increase your blood sugar. Eat fresh fruits that are fiber-rich instead of drinking fruit juices. Milk intake should also be limited to only two glasses per day as they contain lactose. There are other sources of calcium aside from milk if this is what you are worried about. Fifth, exercise regularly. You can do brisk walking. Or better yet, you can just walk after your daily meals. Sixth is to drink more than ten glasses of water to regulate the body’s water levels.

I hope the gestational diet plan guidelines help you in dealing with your diabetes. Always remember to keep track of your blood glucose levels as not doing so will affect you and your baby during delivery. Be safe and healthy pregnant mommies.

Different Ways to Approach Diabetes Treatment
Treatments for diabetes are often difficult. Many struggle with accurate diagnoses of the disease too. Treating it properly is a very special kind of challenge. It is helpful to make lifestyle changes and get the right medications to help get you off to a good start of getting your disease under control. As you may know it takes time to figure out which treatment is going to work best for you without disrupting your lifestyle too much. Read on to learn more about treatments that really work.

Stop smoking. You already know how bad smoking is for you even if you weren’Despite being a diabetic, you already recognize how horrible smoking is for you. Now that you are suffering with this exasperating ailment, your smoking habit worsens. How can this be? Smoking damages your blood vessels. This causes it to be complicated to manage your levels of blood sugar. It makes it tougher for your body to disperse the diabetes medications that must have it. It also contributes to heart disease, cancer and many other health problems. If that wasn’t bad enough, it leaves you with a displeasing smell. It may be really tough, but once you quit smoking and the use of tobacco, you will be very happy you did so.

The same as everything else, it is critical for you to have an exercise routine. Your blood sugar levels can be managed with exercise. It assists your body in digesting the foods you have consumed. Taking observation of your weight is helpful (typically). Issues with your weight are one of the primary causes of Type 2 diabetes and there are times you can block the illness from happening if you get plenty of exercise.

In addition, exercise raises your endorphin levels, which in turn benefit your mood and stress levels. Battling diabetes can be an annoying and distressful course, particularly when it first starts. Regular exercise will help you deal with all of that.

If you have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes you will have clear duties that you will have to take care of. Not only is it crucial for you to take care of your own body, but also that of the baby growing inside you. Most obgyns know quite a bit about gestational diabetes and most women who have to battle the disorder are able to control it solely with their diet. Get together with your doctor to make a choice on the most appropriate way to take care of the disease, so that you and your baby can each be as healthy as possible.

Diabetes is a trying sickness. It can affect you differently depending on any number of factors. This makes it an especially troublesome sickness to have to tend to. By chance, scientists and physicians are increasing their knowledge of this illness on a daily basis. This means it is becoming easier and easier every day to make a choice on the best course of medication for the people who are affected by this illness. Try not to let yourself get too irritated. You will eventually figure out which diabetes treatment is best for you.

Gestational Diabetes Testing

Gestational Diabetes Diet

In recent times, there has been meteoric rise in the number of pregnant women suffering with diabetes, a condition commonly known as pregnancy gestational diabetes. As per the available statistics, around 100,000 women every year suffer with gestational diabetes, a condition that is also called as glucose intolerance during pregnancy.

However, a major portion of these women are not even aware of their condition until they reach the last stages of pregnancy. Gestational diabetes is a condition that can be best controlled only when it is identified early. And the only way to identify the condition is to screen for diabetes using different gestational diabetes testing methods.

As per American Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, there is no one specific method that can be used for screening pregnancy gestational diabetes. Usually, women get affected with gestational diabetes between 24 and 28th week of pregnancy. The general process of screening and diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus involves routine screening for blood glucose levels during this period. Ironically, even if the gestational diabetes testing turns negative, it doesn’t indicate that the non-existence of the illness. The tests need to be repeated during every subsequent trimester.

When it comes to gestational diabetes testing, there are two commonly followed diagnostic methods used around the world:

1. One-hour Oral Glucose Tolerance Test: In this test, pregnant woman is made to drink a solution of glucola that contains 50g of glucose. As the glucose is absorbed rapidly into the system, it causes an increase in blood glucose levels. After 60 minutes, blood sample is drawn from the patient and the samples are analyzed. A case of gestational diabetes is suspected if the glucose levels are above 130-140mg/dL. In this case, patient need not undergo any fasting.

2. Three-hour Glucose Tolerance Test: This method of gestational diabetes testing is recommended only when the one-hour glucose tolerance test results are abnormal. In this test, patients are made to drink a glucola solution containing 100g of glucose. Blood glucose levels are tested four times during a three-hour period and results are analyzed. The first test is done before consuming glucola. Subsequent tests are done after every one hour. Patient is considered to be suffering with pregnancy gestational diabetes even if 2 out of 4 tests show abnormal readings.

Controlling gestational diabetes is extremely important. Otherwise, it can result in various complications occurring in the fetus. Infants might suffer with conditions such as macrosomia or extreme obesity at the time of birth, hypoglycemia, respiratory disorder, jaundice or even juvenile diabetes. If the new born turns macrosomic, delivery can be extremely traumatic both for the mother and infant. In fact, in these types of delivery, babies might experience situations such as shoulder dystocia, fractured bones or nerve damage.

By keeping these different Gestational Diabetes testing methods in mind, you are far more likely to get a proper diagnosis. Early diagnosis can help both the mother and child so please do not hesitate to have these tests done if symptoms start to occur.

What To Do About Your Diabetes – Causes and Treatments
Diabetes is a disease that is involving more and more people every day. While scientists believe the disease merely affects a small percentage of the population, it appears that almost everyone knows at least one person who is affected by the condition. In recent years medical professionals have noticed there is more to “coming down with” Diabetes than simply being born with the gene that makes it happen. The truth is, doctors are starting to recognize that diabetes can even be counteracted if you are cautious. Here are some of the bigger causes of diabetes and what you can do to control them.

If you are a heavy drinker, now’s the time to stop! Excessive alcohol consumption is one of the leading diabetes causes, especially in older men. Fat and empty calories from alcohol affects all the different parts of your body. Alcohol affects all of your body not just your liver. Cholesterol levels can be raised as well. Drinking heavily over long periods of time can cause high blood pressure and also diabetes. A glass or two of wine throughout the week is not harmful. Spending a few hours drinking every night, however, can be very harmful.

Seek treatment if you have a problem with your drinking. Surprisingly, there are some environmental factors that can cause Type 1 diabetes. The most common example is when a person develops diabetes after having contracted a viral infection. A viral infection, however, does not mean that you will develop diabetes. If you weren’t born with diabetes but currently have the condition, then a viral infection may be how you developed it. The fact that viral infections are common can be scary when tied in with diabetes. But seeking medical attention when you don’t feel well can reduce the risk. Serious conditions can hide behind simple looking problems.

Your chances of developing Type 1 diabetes are also affected by your ethnicity. Type 1 diabetes is more common for those who have Northern European ancestors. Those of Finnish or Sardinian descent are in the highest risk group. African Americans and Hispanic Americans are the next most likely to develop diabetes. Those of Asian descent have shown incredibly low risk of developing diabetes. Sadly, this is one thing you cannot fight against. Changing your ethnicity is not possible so there is no way to negate that risk factor.

Diabetes does not have to control your life, in fact you have control over how much you allow diabetes to invade your life. Even the diabetes causes that once eluded us are common knowledge now. This makes identifying the contributing factors is less difficult. If you are dealing with diabetes you need to be aware of all of the available treatment options. We are no longer in the dark about diabetes as a disease. If you know what you are looking for you can likely avoid being subjected to diabetes.

Cure For Type 2 Diabetes – Is It Available Now?

Gestational Diabetes Diet

Is there a cure for Type 2 diabetes? Unfortunately, scientific studies and results say otherwise. Diabetes is still an incurable disease although it can be managed effectively, something that about 15 million people in the U.S. will find relief in.

What is Type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes mellitus was once referred to as non-insulin-dependent diabetes that causes an abnormality in the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein and lipids in the body. Type 2 diabetes is also called the adult-onset diabetes because it often appears in adults as a result of lifestyle choices.

It is a condition that is associated with impaired secretion of and resistance to insulin. Insulin resistance can lead to the advancement of the disease and its complications. Symptoms of this disease develop gradually and people who have Type 2 diabetes will usually not recognize that they have the disease until it has progressed.

How is Type 2 diabetes ‘cured’ or at least, treated?

Treatment is extremely important when dealing with Type 2 diabetes because it can lead to complications that are life-threatening. These complications include kidney failure, heart disease and blindness. In fact, diabetes mellitus is one of the leading causes of blindness in people between the ages of 20 and 75. Diabetes is also the reason behind 40% of kidney failure cases and has been known to cause cardiovascular problems.

The main thrust of any treatment for Type 2 diabetes is to control the amount of glucose found in the blood. This helps prevent symptoms such as pain, tingling, burning and numbness and to prevent other complications. The treatment will not cure these symptoms, but they can be effectively minimized and the complications avoided.

For Type 2 diabetes, a semblance of a cure can be produced with the use of a controlled and sensible diet, regular exercise and weight loss. This is usually the first course of treatment, primarily because weight and a lack of physical activity are often lead contributors to Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes diet and lifestyle

There is no specialized diet for Type 2 diabetes, but portion control and preference for healthier foods should be implemented. Typically, people who have diabetes will work with a nutritionist or dietitian in order to create a diet plan to regulate blood sugar levels. A sensible diabetic meal plan usually involves several types of carbohydrates, a moderate amount of protein and low fat.

Regular physical activity is important to help prevent complications involving the heart and also to promote weight loss. Recently, researchers found that the risk of a person developing Type 2 diabetes increases by about 4% with every pound of weight exceeding his or her ideal range. Weight loss, combined with a good diet plan appears to help the body process insulin effectively.

Living a sensible lifestyle, while still not a cure, is usually enough to regulate a diabetic’s blood sugar level. However, this may not be effective as a long-term treatment for Type 2 diabetes. Eventually, medication will have to be used. Oral medications are often prescribed as the first course of treatment. These include drugs such as sulfonylureas, metformin, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, troglitazone and repaglinide. These drugs are formulated to bring down blood glucose levels. If taken in controlled doses and monitored, these drugs should be an effective means with which to manage Type 2 diabetes.

Oral medications are effective for about 40% of people who have Type 2 diabetes while about 40% will need insulin injections. A percentage of these will require a combination of both oral medications and insulin injections while about 10% will do well using just a good diet and exercise regimen.

Beyond the hype

When headlines trumpet that a cure for Type 2 diabetes is possible, they’re almost tempting to believe. The only problem is that this news may be misleading and can be quite dangerous because until now, no cure for Type 2 diabetes has been discovered. It remains an incurable condition and will have to be managed with a combination of medications and lifestyle changes.

There will always be hype about a ‘cure’ for Type 2 diabetes and somewhere, someone will always have a reason to want to believe in it. However, remember that any scientific breakthrough that will make a huge difference in the lives of millions of men and women all over the world will mean big news. If a ‘cure’ for Type 2 diabetes suddenly appears, exercise prudence and common sense when considering it.

The future of Type 2 diabetes

Research about Type 2 diabetes is ongoing and the main goal is to finally find a cure for this disease. Its exact cause is still unclear, although there is plenty of research being performed on any effects environmental and genetic factors might contribute. As of now, new drugs and methods are probably the nearest we can get to a cure. Until a real solution is found, we will have to rely on these methods and medications in order to ensure that Type 2 diabetes is managed and its symptoms and associated complications are minimized.

Be on the Look Out for Diabetes Symptoms
Identifying the chief indicators of diabetes can help you avoid complications with the sickness. Unfortunately, many of the signs of diabetes that present themselves outside of the body are also signs of other sicknesses.

This can lead to a lot of wrong diagnoses before properly identifying diabetes and an avenue of treatment is chosen. Still, being able to discover the main signs of this illness can save you a bunch of time. When you observe one of the symptoms mentioned in this article, contact your physician and ask to be tested.

One of the most obvious signs of diabetes is fatigue. Yes, fatigue is a symptom of any number of problems.

Occasionally it could be a sign of a major illness. Other times it just means you need to get more sleep. Although, when it is being caused by diabetes, the fatigue is enormous. Someone facing this type of sleepiness probably gets plenty of sleep at night and, even if he is fairly inactive, will often feel absolutely drained. This is the kind of drowsiness that is often times associated with mononucleosis and can be just as limiting. Watch out for your energy levels. If there is no reason for you to be feeling so exhausted, call your doctor and ask him to run some tests.

Does your vision periodically go blurry without warning or predictability? This is a difficult symptom to see in another person. If it happens to you, though, it could be a signal that your body is having insulin problems and should be tested for diabetes. Diabetes can be referred to as Diabetes Melitus. This happens when the fluid in the tissue surrounding the lenses of your eyes is drained. This makes it harder for your eyes to focus. Sometimes blurry vision is a sign that you need glasses. Talk to your doctor if it is only every now and then or comes and goes without warning.

One of the signs of diabetes that is more difficult to figure out, especially in yourself is when you feel a bit out of sorts. We all have days where we just can’t seem to concentrate. If you are suddenly feeling agitated, confused or even irritated and can’t determine why you feel that way, it could be on the account of you are enduring one of the syndromes of diabetes. It can be a cinch to observe in others but not so easy to see in yourself.

You might not even be aware that you’re acting different. It’s when someone asks “what’s wrong with you” that you should sit up and pay attention. From time to time it is just a bad mood. Occasionally it is a symptom of something that is not right internally and physically.

Diabetes is often difficult to diagnose. This is because not everyone is familiar with the major diabetes symptoms so they don’t know what to watch out for. A good rule of thumb is if you are not acting like your usual self, it is time to get a hold of your physician.

Be sure to remember the indicators that are specific to diabetes are usually not shown outwardly. A blood test and test of your pancreas will be needed to definitively diagnose you. Once you have the correct diagnosis, you’ll be more likely to discover how to feel better and get back to your usual lifestyle.

Gestational Diabetes Meal Plan

Gestational Diabetes Diet

If a glucose level of pregnant women is disturbed, this is termed as gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is a temporary phase and usually fades away when the baby is born. But the pregnant woman who has suffered from gestational diabetes is at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes at any stage of her life.

Gestational diabetes, if properly controlled does not harm the baby. But if left untreated the elevated glucose levels in the blood may cause the baby to gain more weight and as a consequence, it may either harm the baby’s shoulder during birth or a cesarean section has to be planned.

Gestational diabetes is sometimes referred as a double curse. It leaves the pregnant women in a dilemma of what to eat and what not to eat. As something good for the baby may not be good for her diabetes and vice versa. The following are given some of the basic guidelines for the gestational diabetes diet.

o Instead of skipping meal a gestational diabetic women should take 5 smaller meals a day.

o Reduce the intake of carbohydrates in the breakfast, as now the insulin resistance is at its maximum in the body.

o The quantity of carbohydrate should be consistent in each meal.

o Increase to consume fiber rich foods.

o Drink at least 1 1/2 liters of water daily.

o Do not try to lose weight during pregnancy.

o Take at least 3 servings of iron rich food, 4 of the dairy milk products, 1 of vitamin C rich food.

o Take at least 1 source of folic acid daily and 1 source of vitamin every alternate day.

The daily diet menu can be designed keeping into account the above mentioned tips. Here I’ll be giving you a gestational diabetes diet plan for one day. The goal behind this diet plan is to provide the mother and the fetus the constant and consistent energy without elevating the sugar levels in the bloodstream.

The key idea behind the meal plan is to eat smaller meals of equal nutrient value after regular intervals throughout the day. The sample gestational diabetic diet is given below:

Breakfast

Egg hard-boiled – 1

Whole wheat bread – 1 slice

Fat-free margarine – 1 tsp

Grapes – 1 cup

Skimmed milk – 1 1/2 cup

Mid-morning Snack

Whole wheat bread – 1 slice

Peanut butter – 3 tsp

Diet jams – 3 tsp

Skimmed milk – 1 cup

Lunch

Whole wheat pita bread – 1

Cooked black beans – 1/2 cups

Chopped tomatoes – 1/2 cup

Cheddar cheese – 2 Tbsp

Salsa – 3 tsp

Olive oil – 1/2 Tbsp

Mid-Afternoon Snack

Apple – 1

Peanut butter – 3 tsp

Skimmed milk – 1 1/2 cup

Dinner

Chicken breast – 3 ounce

Pineapple – 1/2 cup

Sesame seed – 3 tsp

Sesame oil – 3 tsp

Soy sauce – 2 tsp

Green beans – 1/2 cup

Cooked rice – 1/2 cup

Strawberries – 1/2 cup

Evening Snack

Air-popped popcorn (plain) – 5 cups

The aim of the given meal plan is to provide the pregnant women and the growing fetus a constant source of energy. Though the caloric requirement varies a lot from women to woman, but still on an average a pregnant woman requires around an additional 300 calories a day. These calories should be sufficiently loaded up with the essential ingredients with the regular intake of water.

Diabetes-What To Watch For
Identifying the primary signs of diabetes can help you avoid complications with the disease. Sadly, a majority of the indicators of diabetes that present themselves outside of the body are also indicators of other disorders.

This can lead to several misdiagnoses prior to your diabetes being correctly identified and a course of action is decided on. Still, being able to notice the chief indicators of this sickness can save you bunches of time. When you see one of the symptoms listed in this article, contact your doctor and ask to be tested.

A person with diabetes will often experience more infections than the average person. Being more prone to infection can be a symptom of undiagnosed diabetes because your immune system is not as strong as it could be. The most common infections experienced by diabetics are urinary tract infections and skin conditions that are caused by fungus and bacteria. These types of infections can be indicitive of fluctuation of blood sugar levels and should prompt your physician to check pancreatic function in addition to treating the infections.

A bigger sign of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes is that the body stops producing potassium in an accurate manner. The body’s potassium gets out of control and this make a bunch of physical symptoms happen – such as dehydration, an altered state of mind and occasionally a coma can occur if the problem is not noticed in time. This irregular production of potassium is generally misdiagnosed in the beginning, which is why, if you are not feeling right you should demand that your medical professional be as meticulous as possible in diagnosing you. You don’t want to be sent home with a prescription for antibiotics when the real problem is diabetes!

Do you have a hard time concentrating? Are you prone to fainting? These symptoms may indicate you have diabetes. Diabetes has an affect on the pancreas’s ability to produce and regulate insulin and blood sugar levels. Before you get diagnosed, it is not uncommon for your sugar levels to fluctuate wildly which can cause fainting spells or light headedness. You need to consult your doctor if you experience these spells especially if you experience feeling drained of energy after. You might have a condition refered to as hypoglycemia. A few unlucky suspects will require insulin treatment to regulate blood. Your physician is the only one who can determine for sure what is happening.

It is really challenging to diagnose diabetes. This is because many of the symptoms mimic symptoms of other disorders as well. The most direct signs can only be discovered after thorough testing. Still, there are physical signs and diabetes symptoms that you should be looking for. Diabetes is a grave illness, especially if it isn’t treated appropriately. Taking care of it properly depends on a real diagnosis. So, if you observe that your body is not acting right, you should contact your physician.
